Bridging the gap

Hey!, here you are an interesting initiative I think it's worth a look, TechStudents.net. It is "an electronic forum connecting skilled technology students eager to gain real world experience on an hourly basis with businesses that are in-demand of affordable technology resources".

It was created by JJ DiGeronimo, a former consultant from Accenture. I think it's a great idea quite useful in getting together the business arena and the academic environment. From the enterprise point of view, it's critical the posibility of having a pool of skilled and motivated 'professionals' available on a hourly basis and working project-by-project. It sounds like the ideal situation for the consultancy services industry. And, of course, from the University point of view it's a mean for having the students practicing - and hence, improving - their abilities and gaining experience at the same time they expand their networking; It could be useful even in gaining international experience and improving entrepeneurial initiatives. It's the 'E-lance Era'.

It's possible that initiatives like this, deserves being included in the Common European Higher Education Space agreement - aka Bologna Declaration - considered as one of that so called 'cybergeographies', just bridging the traditional gap between the academic world and the 'real one'.
