The IT debate

The publication of Carr´s "Does IT matter?" has brought the topic to the headlines again; and CIO Magazine is running a hot debate one more time. This time, we have an interview with Nicholas Carr, a counter-argument from Don Tapscott, and a fresh point of view, that is aimed to consider the corporate IT Department as a business itself, as some kind of 'Business' inside the actual Business...

I think it's important to highlight from the interview one of the answers from Carr:

"One of the reasons for writing my article and my book is to underscore the danger of trying to tie competitive advantage to a particular resource rather than to a complex system of activities and resources and such."

It could be helpful in focusing the debate, avoiding all the hype surrounding the original article; because I´m pretty convinced that its "success" is not only due to its content or the topics that are discussed within it, but mainly to the sensitivities 'hurted' by the conclusions reflected in the article´s provocative title itself, mainly that of the CIOs.
